At harvest time in 12th-century Suffolk, reapers found a boy and a girl standing at the mouth of an old wolf pit. Their skin was green. Their clothes were made of cloth no one could name, and they spoke a language no one understood. They refused all food until someone brought in raw beans. Two chroniclers recorded what happened next. One was a historian famous for exposing fakes, who admitted the witnesses were too many to ignore. Tonight we follow the green children from the fields of Woolpit to a knight's manor, through the girl's account of Saint Martin's Land, and into the theory that ties them to a battle, a river, and a village a few miles away.
