On Whit Monday, 1828, a shoemaker in Nuremberg found a boy swaying in the square. He had soft, blistered feet, an unsigned letter in his hand, and one sentence he repeated over and over. When the boy learned to speak, he described a life spent sitting in the dark, fed bread and water by a man he never saw. All of Europe wanted to know who he was. A rumor made him a stolen prince. An English lord took him in, then left. A hooded attacker found him twice. Tonight we follow Kaspar Hauser from the castle tower to a winter garden in Ansbach, where he was stabbed and a purse was found holding a message that could only be read in a mirror. Nearly two hundred years later, DNA tests answered one question and left the rest open.
